Annual Meeting and Dinner
I am pleased to confirm that the 54th OHA Annual Meeting and Dinner will be held on the evening of Thursday, 2nd November 2017. We will again be at the Charterhouse, Sutton’s Hospital, Charterhouse Square, London EC1M 6AN, since they offer a good deal for us, given our numbers. The evening will commence with the usual drinks reception from 7:00 pm, with the AGM itself at 7:30 pm and dinner immediately afterwards. Now is the time to book a place, or if you are not sure, Save the Date.
The price will be the same as last year, so £82.50 per head or £45 per head for Monitors of the House or OHs under the age of 25 years, while leavers in 2016 who paid an increased subscription will be entitled to one free dinner, provided they confirm attendance to me by the end of September. If you would like to reserve a place, please send your money to the usual account (Sort code: 20-01-09, Account number: 00701769 – make sure you add your name as the reference and send me an email so we can confirm receipt).
Further details will follow in due course. We are looking to bring together a number of ‘Champions’ to pull together groups of similar vintage, to make the evening more convivial. If you’d like to volunteer as a Champion, please email [email protected].
Chairman, Old Hodgsonites Association
Guest speaker will be Simon Robinson. Simon is an Old Hodgsonite (’73) who has turned his hand to several things, notably as a partner at a major city law firm and chairman of the Governors of Charterhouse School. His latest venture is as an emerging wine maker at Hattingley Valley Wines (www.hattingleyvalley.co.uk), based in Hampshire, whose 2011 Sparkling Rosé was awarded the title of 2014 World Champion Vintage Rosé in the inaugural Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships. He plans to share with you some of the highs and lows as the business expands, and we will have some bottles open at the dinner for you to enjoy.
Each year The Old Hodgsonites Association holds an annual dinner:
For 2013 we celebrated the 50th OH dinner. Details of the next dinner – 2014 Tuesday 16th September – Carlton Club at 7PM for drinks with AGM at 7:30 followed by dinner.
Over the years the Dinner has been held in and around Clubland in London, the last few at The National Liberal Club at 1 Whitehall Place and or The Carlton Club in St James. With a break from tradition the 2013 50th Anniversary dinner was held at the very special The Charterhouse in the City.
Our dinners are a truly Hodgsonites affair encompassing present monitors of the House, musicians, House tutors and the Housemaster as well as any member of the OHA.
The Dinner is preceded by our AGM at which we remember OHs who have died during the previous year and the finances of the Association are presented. Elections of officers are made, the date and location of the next dinner is fixed and any other business of common interest to the Association is presented.
Over the last few years our after-dinner speaker has spoken on a topic related to a Carthusian theme. This has included talks about ‘Charterhouse Museum’, ’Robert Graves’, ‘Thomas Sutton and the founding statutes of Charterhouse’, ‘Music and Charterhouse’ and from Peter Nathan (’49) on the subject of the great cricketer: ‘Peter May, Sportsman and Friend’.
I would encourage anyone who has not seen contemporaries for a while to consider coming along or getting a group together and join us on the next occasion.
